Students return to school Tuesday after effects of Hurricane Sandy cause week-long closure.
After a week-long closure due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, all Garden City public schools, with the exception of two, will re-open Tuesday, as will St. Anne's and St. Joe's.
Waldorf School will remain closed Tuesday.
All public school district buildings will open Tuesday on a normal schedule except for Garden City Middle School and Hemlock School.
District officials advise those traveling to school and to the various bus stops to be careful since many sidewalk areas have been damaged as a result of the storm.
At. St. Anne's the aftercare program will be available for registered students. School officials are advising parents to send lunch and a drink with their child because "chicken nuggets or milk may not be able to be provided" according to a message on the school's website

Students attending St. Joe's should also bring lunch and a drink, according to a message from Principal Kilbride on the school's website
. "We have not had a milk delivery," the message read. "The items in the freezer were all thrown away last week." Pleases also note that the class trips scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. Please be aware that, as of Monday, there is no phone or Internet service at school.
"I have my
cell phone and the rectory, district, Garden City police, and the
Diocesan Education Department have the number so there is nothing to
worry about," Principal Kilbride notes on the website. "I will also have access to the website through my iPad."
Principal Kilbride adds, "I know that some homes still do not have power. There is plenty of heat in the school. Please come down to the school tomorrow morning. I will put a pot of coffee on and you will be able to sit and chat together. I will have it set up in the auditorium."
