On Friday, November 16, four
graduate students from the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business took home the
Portfolio Trading Team Champion trophy in the 2012 University Trading Challenge
(UTC). Beginning on October 8, the competition consisted of four main
components: long-term portfolio management, (2) short-term trading, and a case
study presentation. The Adelphi University team (named "Team AU") included
four M.B.A. students from Visiting Professor and Senior Executive-in-Residence
Michael Driscoll’s class: Yue Wang, Tingyi Hong, Rong Zhang, and Adam ZhangDu.
Team AU was among 80 students,
representing 14 universities that took part in the competition. The students
dedicated a lot of time to the challenge while also juggling a full course
load. Professors Michael Driscoll, Jiang Zhang, Simon Yang and Liem Nguyen helped
prepare the team and served as valuable resources.
Initiated in 2010, the University
Trading Challenge is an annual event with competitions held in New York and
London. Participating in the University Trading Challenge gives students the
chance to practice in the areas of finance, quantitative analysis, and business
leadership in a real world scenario while showcasing their trading abilities to
prospective employers.
