Adelphi's Nexus Building Construction Begins

Adelphi student Alexa Froccaro provides an update.

Construction is officially underway on Adelphi University's campus for a nearly 100,000 square foot two- and three-story building that will house the new School of Nursing and Public Health, as well as dedicated space for, among other things, alumni relations, admissions, career services and simulation labs to be made available to regional healthcare partners for professional development.

The Nexus Building and Welcome Center is expected to take 21 months to complete, before students arrive in September 2015.

"This new facility is designed to ensure our continued success in recruiting, retaining and graduating students with the highest graduation rates on Long Island being at Adelphi," university president Dr. Robert Scott said during a May public hearing before the Garden City village board.

Trustees unanimously approved Adelphi's application in June.

The new green facility's design is to be consistent with the "style and feel" of the existing campus, he said.
