Annual Pot Luck Dinner at GCNS

Parents Gather for Annual GCNS Pot-Luck Supper Over 138 members of the Garden City Nursery School (GCNS), a parent cooperative, gathered to celebrate the Pot-Luck Supper on Friday, October 19, 2012.  The Pot-Luck is an annual treat for parents at our cooperative school, because they are able to meet new families, catch up with old friends, and have a fun night out without the kids.  Parent Donna Kraus commented, "This was my 5th Pot-Luck Supper and I look forward to it every year--connecting with old friends and meeting new ones--it's so much fun!"  Nancy Cole and Liz Deligatti remarked, "We always line-up our babysitters early for the Pot-Luck Supper.  It’s a night filled with delicious food and never ending laughs."As part of the cooperative structure, parents are required to serve on a committee throughout the year to support the school.  The Hospitality Committee Chairs, Mindy Capra and Christine O’Neill and their entire parent committee, transformed the nursery school classroomsfor the Pot-Luck Supper into a dazzling club atmosphere, with accents of the fall season.  The table seating was arranged by class, so that the parents of each of our groups are able to sit together and socialize.  One of the highlights of our Pot-Luck Supper is that each family contributes a special dish, from sumptuous entrees to tempting desserts.  It’s always fun to guess which family made each dish as one winds down the buffet line. Recipes and “best kept cooking secrets” are always exchanged by the end of the night!Once again, Debby Cupani, the GCNS President and Auctioneer, got into the spirit and auctioned off some fabulous prizes to support our school. Highlights included a trip to the vineyards of the North Fork, a weekly timeshare in Florida, tickets to the Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Melissa Gaffney and the Raffle Committee, as well as Donna Kraus, the Vice-President of Fundraising, worked extra hard to make our fundraising packages for the Pot-luck Supper a great success.  Funds raised from the Pot-Luck Supper directly support our school, and a portion of funds will be donated to benefit those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The Garden City Nursery School, a parent cooperative founded in 1951, is registered and chartered by the New York State Department of Education.  It is governed by a parent Board of Trustees and an appointed professional teaching staff, which is New York State certified. Garden City Nursery School was recently awarded the “2012 People's Choice Award” for Best Preschool by the Garden City Patch, where parents voted for their favorite local nursery school. For more information about registering a child for the 2013-2014 school year, call (516) 481-7765, orwww.gcns.org.
