Garden City Alums Share College Experience

College freshmen discussed a variety of topics surrounding the college application process and more.

On Jan. 5, Garden City High School sponsored Alumni Return Day when 13 Class of 2010 alums returned to the high school library to share their first-year college experiences with current high school students during three optional attendance periods.

The alum panel was made up of Christopher Ajemian (University of Edinburgh, Scotland), Caroline Confort (Bucknell University), Amalia DeBrosse (University of Pennsylvania), Kacie Flynn (Syracuse University), Ryan Gallant (University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill), Chris LaGreca (Fairfield University), Paige Logan (Davidson College), Emily Menges (Georgetown University), Jenna Perrier (Fordham University), Victoria Seskin (University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill), Allison Shen (Duke University), Buck Shepland (Sacred Heart University) and Michelle Velez (Villanova University).

The college freshmen discussed a variety of topics surrounding the college application process and answered questions about school selection, academic challenges, roommates, course selection, befriending new people and tips for educational success in large lecture classes.

Testimonials from the group strongly endorsed the preparation they received at the high school and encouraged students to challenge themselves to broaden their opportunities for college acceptance and success, district officials said.
