January 2013 Musicians of the Month Claire and Shannon Graham
The Music Academy of Garden City is pleased to announce that 9-year-old twins Claire and Shannon Graham have been named the January 2013 Musicians of the Month!  Claire and Shannon are in the fourth grade at Stewart Avenue Elementary School.  Both Claire and Shannon are very musical and hard-working young women.  Their interest in learning the piano began at their nana and grandpa’s house, where they keep a piano that the girls always wanted to know to play.  So, they began lessons at the MAGC when they were 6 years old.  Kristan, Claire’s teacher, believes she has a great talent for piano.  “Claire practices diligently and shows extreme growth in every lesson.  She is excited and eager to learn and always works hard.  She is an absolute pleasure to teach and I look forward to seeing her grow as a musician.”  Shannon studies with Erin Blatti, who says that “Shannon combines two important elements of a great musician: a diligent work ethic towards practicing and the creative drive to originate her own musical material.  She is fun to teach because she likes to be silly and tell jokes but becomes instantly focused on the music once she has started playing a piece.  Shannon is hardly ever absent for her lessons and stays motivated simply by her passion for making beautiful music on the piano.  She is an inspiring student and I look forward to seeing her every week!”

Claire and Shannon enjoy their lessons with Kristan and Erin.  “I like Kristan because she teaches me different songs like ‘Winnie the Pooh,’ one of my favorite cartoons,” says Claire.  And Shannon likes Erin because “she is not strict and doesn’t yell.  She makes me want to practice.”   The Music Academy of Garden City faculty and staff are extremely proud of Claire and Shannon!
