The Top Five Things You Should Know Sept. 4:

1. First Day of School: The 2012-2013 academic year for all Garden City public schools officially kicks off today. The district calendar is now available on the district’s homepage under the Quick Link, “School Calendar.” Printed copies were mailed to parents only. Non-parent residents may pick up a copy of the calendar while supplies last at the Administration Building, 56 Cathedral Avenue, Monday thru Friday, during regular business hours. Parents are encouraged to check the district website regularly for timely information like weather-related school closings or modified schedules.

2. Combat Bullies: With the new school year upon us, parents and children are gearing up to go back to school today and possibly, back to bullying. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County offers advice to combat bullying in schools this year. Click here to read more.
