Athletic Fields to See Improvements

Western side of soccer fields at St. Paul's to close for fall season.

Several village athletic fields will see improvements over the coming weeks, according to recreation commissioner Kevin Ocker.

Planned projects for the fall include the complete renovation of the infield of the 90-foot baseball field at Community Park, to include new irrigation, new sod and a new mound, and the renovation of the worn areas of the St. Paul's soccer fields.

One entire area on the west side of the property will be taken out of service for the fall and reopened in the spring of 2012, according to Ocker. Schedules have been carefully reviewed so the closure will not affect the fall season.

In late fall, the outfield areas between fields #3 and #4 at Community Park will be leveled and seeded. Winter turf covers will also be installed to protect the renovated areas.

Recreation staff, according to Ocker, will begin routine maintenance tasks on the roller rink this week, patching cracks in the surface, painting new lines and replacing nets and some sections of the dasher boards.
