During the 2009 season, Matt Sagistano, of Levittown, and then assistant coach Josh Blumenthal spoke to each other from the field to the sidelines. In 2012, the two Adelphi University alumni will take their experiences and head north to Regis College in Massachusetts to work together as coaches.
Blumenthal, an Amityville native entering his second season at the helm of the men’s lacrosse team at Regis, has hired Sagistano to be his full-time assistant coach.
“Having coached Matt and seen his calm under pressure and positive attitude under a variety of situations, I feel extremely confident in his abilities on the sidelines.” Blumenthal said. “The opportunity to not only work with Matt but help embrace the Adelphi University connection is something that truly excites me.”
A 2010 graduate of Adelphi with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, Sagistano earned a spot on the university's Dean's List along with holding a position on the East Coast Conference Commissioner's High Honor Roll.
On the field, he played in 22 contests for the Panthers at the midfield position, where he had a shot on goal percentage of 80 percent during the 2009 season.
Prior to his tenure at Adelphi, Sagistano spent two seasons at national lacrosse powerhouse Nassau Community College. He earned an associate's degree in liberal arts while serving as team captain during his second season, the same year his team won a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship.
In addition to his coaching duties, Sagistano will complete his master's degree program in special education at Regis College.
