Garden City Trojans Varsity Basketball back on track
The Garden City Boys Varsity Basketball team is back on the winning track.
With two games remaining, The team needs one more victory to make the playoffs.
Last Tuesday, Coach Steimers team had yet another exciting game and was victorious 47-35 at New Hyde Park. The Trojans started the game strong ending the first quarter 15-6. GC never looked back taking advantage of the size of big men Ed Blatz, Dan Bonchonsky, Andrew Granville and Michael Collins. Bonchonsky (12 points and 12 rebounds) and Blatz (11 points and 10 rebounds) were too much for NHP to handle as they dominated the inside game. Spencer Bais and Mark DeSantis led the breaking of the Gladiator press. Kyle Skramko played excellent defense frustrating New Hyde Parks leading scorer by not allowing him a single 3 pointer or field goal.
The Trojans led the entire game and were up 26-16 at the half. Rob Wotczak contributed 7 points along with great ball handling and some key rebounds. Mark DeSantis played awesome defense and scored 2 points. Michael Collins was able to sneak back door on the NHP defense scoring 4 points. Joe Leighton (2 points) and Chris Larkin spread out the NHP defense creating inside opportunities for GC's big men by working hard swinging the ball around the perimeter. Andrew Granville had a couple of nice blocks and scored 2 points. Kyle Skramko continued his streak of hitting a 3 pointer in each game he's played this season. Skramko leads the Team in 3 pointers and contributed 7 points in the teams 5th league victory.
The Trojans are home for SENIOR Night Monday Feb 11th at 6:30pm versus Wantagh. The boys then end the regular season Tuesday at South Side.
Come on down and cheer on the Trojans!
