GC Boys Soccer Falls on Penalty Kicks to Roslyn

The Trojans go down 3-1 in penalty kicks and are eliminated from the playoffs.

The Garden City boys fell victim to every soccer coach's nightmare - dominate time of possession in a game for 100 minutes and lose on penalty kicks.

But that's what happened to coach Paul Cutter's number 3 seeded squad as they lost a heartbreaker to 11th seeded Roslyn.

After a full regulation match and then two 10-minute golden goal sessions, the game came down to kicks from the penalty spot. Roslyn buried three of their first four shots while Garden City was only able to put one of their four shots past the Roslyn keeper.

Garden City's chances came in bursts in both halves and in OT. The opening 10 minutes of the game saw the Trojans get several good scoring chances but they were unable to put a ball into the goal.

With numerous throw-ins from inside the 18-yard box to close out both the regulation and overtime sessions Garden City just couldn't get by Ethen Rousso. The athletic Roslyn keeper took the ball off of Jack Gillan's head several times to thwart the Garden City senior.

Throughout the match the Garden City boys had the advantage although the Bulldogs did counterattack and force Trojans keeper Ray Leto to come up with several key saves.

The disappointing loss doesn't erase a fabulous season for the Garden City boys as they finished the regular season in second place with an 8-2-2 record.
