Waldorf Boys Varsity Basketball Comes Up Short in 2010 IPPSAL Championship

Despite a valiant effort, the boys lost to Portledge School 55-53 in Tuesday's IPPSAL championship.

Despite a valiant effort, the boys varsity basketball team from Waldorf lost a close game to the Portledge School by a score of 55-53 in yesterday's IPPSAL championship.

"It was a well played game by both teams. We made some big shots to come from behind and kept the game close with 29 seconds left on the clock," said Waldorf's coach Joe McMahon. "Since we needed possession of the ball, we had to foul to stop the clock. Unfortunately for Waldorf, Portledge hit two clutch-foul free throws to put the game away in the final seconds."

Junior Landon Twine led all scorers with 30 points, including many clutch baskets. Classmates Sean Proctor and Rangsi Sarnkingthong contributed 7 and 4 points respectively, with sophomore Brandon Verise-Kohan adding 9. Playing in his final game for Waldorf School, senior Domenic D'Ercole was strong throughout, playing outstanding defense in a hotly contested game.

Chosen as a "neutral site" for the final IPPSAL game of the 2009-2010 season; the gym at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Glen Cove was packed to the rafters with students, parents, alumni and other fans from the Waldorf School of Garden City.

"If fan attendance could indicate Waldorf's level of community support, then Waldorf can certainly claim that victory!" said Waldorf parent Adrienne Novick.
