Each year during the holiday season, it is the tradition of the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club to assist with the Salvation Army's bell-ringing project.

For several hours on Friday evening, Dec. 14 and Saturday throughout the day on Dec. 15, member volunteers from the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club were posted outside of Kings on Franklin Avenue in Garden City to solicit donations to provide for the Army's numerous causes.

The Salvation Army of Greater New York serves more than 600,000 New Yorkers each year in over 140 community and social service programs for children senior citizens and adults.

The organization is well known for rendering Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance in addition to food pantries, emergency rent programs, medical expenses for people throughout Nassau County, along with the provision of emergency disaster coverage.

Rotary bell ringers included Thomas Gelsdorf, Bob Bonagura, Jim Brady, Joe Frey, Peter Marshall, Jennifer Poupis, Althea Robinson, Bob Schoelle and Helmut Schuler.
