A weak storm heading in from the Ohio River Valley will bring snow all over Long Island during the day Tuesday, but little accumulations are expected.

The storm, a weak area of low pressure, will pass with its strongest parts to the south of Long Island, but will have enough to bring snowfall throughout the day and night on Tuesday. Most meteorologists, including those with the National Weather Service expect Long Island to see a slushy one or two inches on grassy surfaces at the most before all is said and done.

Temperatures, expected to be near 39° for a high, will be just around the point for snow to fall – but not enough to stick to warmer surfaces like roadways and pavement until later in the day.

The snowfall should begin during the morning hours and finish up later Tuesday evening before rapid clearing in its wake. Conditions for heaviest snowfall are suggested to be during the afternoon hours, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

With little power or organization behind the storm, wind and storm surge will be non-factors during this burst of wintry weather.

As of this posting at 9 a.m., the National Weather Service has not issued any storm advisories or warnings for this snowfall.

A few storm track models have suggested some organization as the storm begins to pull away – if this occurs, there is potential for more accumulation on the lines of 3 to 6 inches of wet snow.

Please note – this is a very slight chance of these models being correct.
