Garden City's 16th Annual Belmont Festival Tonight

Rescheduled event kicks off at 6 p.m. on Seventh Street.

The Belmont Festival Committee is pleased to announce the rescheduling of the 16th annual Belmont Festival in Garden City for Friday evening, June 28 from 6-10 p.m.

“While it was disappointing to be rained out on the eve of the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park, we were fortunate to be able to reschedule all five bands and bring back an evening of family fun featuring live music, great food and other entertainment to Seventh Street,” Festival chairperson Mary Dolan Grippo said.

The 2013 festival is sponsored by the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) and Stifel Nicolaus Investment Services.

“This tremendous event would not be possible without the continued support of NYRA and our newest partner Stifel Nicolaus. We are very grateful for their commitment and thank them for their involvement in this year’s festival,” Dolan Grippo added.

The bands – all returning from past years - include the Fivestone Rock Band, Jerry and the Newcomers, New Vintage Orchestra and Nor’ easter (formerly Speak Easy) and the Village Music Makers. Young dancers from Broadway Bound Dance Center of Garden City will also perform.

A festival favorite, the Wing-Off Competition, will offer local restaurants the opportunity to compete to be named Garden City’s chicken wing champion.  Attendees can participate in the tasting and judging with a donation of $5. All proceeds benefit local Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by the American Red Cross.
