Dozens of break-ins into cars in the East End of Long Beach last week. Most had radios stolen. TheRead More LBPD won't take a report when you call them, telling you it's and "insurance issue". That's one way to say crime is down I guess.
Jack April 18, 2014 at 09:00 pm
Where in long Beach were there breakins? Everyone demand that LBPD take a report for theft otherwiseRead More call the DA's office they can take the reort and then report police misconduct to them.

You know as much as the NYS Troopers can be pricks, you've got to give them some credit. When theyRead More set up speed traps they get OUT of their cars with radar guns and actually point it at cars, then have a chase car down the road. Unlike most PD's, when they hand you that ticket you have to appreciate the effort that went into it.
Scott Peterson April 18, 2014 at 11:29 pm
In my experiences, the State Police I've encountered in my travels across the country have alwaysRead More displayed a level of courtesy and professionalism I've often found wanting in smaller organizations. I've never encountered a prick as I define the term though were I to include the term to mean one who seemingly allows no exceptions, I could see the term as valid.
knee jerk April 19, 2014 at 09:07 am
Well put definition Scott, seemingly describing Maryland State Troopers to a tee.

Is this a joke!? THIS IS WHAT MY TAXES GO TO!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
Vincent April 17, 2014 at 09:27 am
I read this BS site every day and this is the first time I've seen this. Maybe the Mineola PatchRead More featured an East Hampton or maybe a Greenport story that day. The Patch is a joke.

What a loser
Massa April 16, 2014 at 08:02 pm
No trial, just get this loser off the streets. 20 year prison sentence would be a good start.

I wonder when they plan on putting the CIA on trial for conspiracy to distribute these drugs...orRead More when they plan on going after the big pharma companies that are the main buyers of the product they're trying to get rid of. With everything the way it is, it is hard to believe that big government and big pharma is not colluding to produce huge profits at the expense of the addicts they cultivate. Look up zohydro...a drug ten times stronger than oxycontin. We have enough problems with oxy, why would you multiply that problem by ten?

Unfortunately for a first time offender this is the average punishment. I would like to see a firingRead More squad myself. In Minnesota they have what is called Whiskey plates. If you get convicted of DWI you are issued new plates that start with the letter W followed by numbers. PE. W35478. So everyone knows your a drunk. So if the firing squad is to much maybe NY could do this
Meri B. Kassner April 16, 2014 at 07:10 am
First offence should be jail time. Maybe that would stop some repeat offenders. Their whole familyRead More is messed up. Ugh.
Sent from my Lear Jet April 18, 2014 at 01:10 pm
Stop with stupid marijuana arrests. Alcohol kills 88,000 every year, 11,00 of them mowed down byRead More drunk drivers. Tobacco killed 40,000. Marijuana killed ZERO. That's right ZERO. What the hell do they waste money arresting pot users who cause no social problems like alcohol does. Armed robberies, murders, wife beating, child abuse are all fueled by alcohol.
LB TAXPAYA April 18, 2014 at 03:23 pm
Good Point "Lear Jet". How do you feel about the NYPD stopping the snooping of Muslims?Read More I have mixed feelings. I definitely think they can foil terror plots by snooping, but it does kind of infringe on their privacy. It's a catch 22.
Bob West April 19, 2014 at 07:52 am
@Learjet- I appreciate your resistance to be "pigeonholed" and especially your commentRead More above about wasteful enforcing of pot laws with limited resources. Not to be picky, but you might want to clarify your above post- looks like maybe a typo. "National security and terrorism intelligence is something that should very loosely restricted." I think I know what you mean to say, but others might not. Thanks for your often "think out of the box." comments.

I'm no fan of the cops but what would YOU do in that situation. It is very easy to be a MondayRead More Morning quarterback. I'm sure if the cop did nothing and someone in the building was killed you would be criticizing the cops. Trust me he feels horrible.
Massa April 6, 2014 at 12:49 pm
Ivan, I don't know what you do for a living. It is so wrong of you to make those comments.Paul isRead More right, it is unfair to Monday morning quarterback a situation that you will never or will ever be put in. Try putting yourself in that situation, not an easy job. If someone is pointing a gun threading to shot someone and the pointing a gun at you.... What would you do? Please don't believe everything that these reporters put on the news and in the papers.... Half the stuff is incorrect. This poor officer didn't want to go to work and make that decision to fire his weapon. I am he feels horrible and has to deal with this for the rest of his life. The one who should be held accountable is the judge who let him back on the streets after commiting a robbery.

THE INCIDENTS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND INAPPROPRIATE CONTACT WITH STUDENTS IN SCHOOLS ON LONG ISLAND ISRead More RISING. IN THE PAST FIFTEEN MONTHS THERE HAVE BEEN ELEVEN ARRESTS OF TEACHERS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ABUSE. HOW MANY OTHER INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED, THAT CHILDREN ARE AFRAID TO REPORT? MOST PARENTS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO BE WARY OF STRANGERS. UNFORTUNATELY MOST INCIDENTS OF ABUSE ARE PERPETRATED BY SOMEONE THE CHILD KNOWS. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT NOT BEING SAFE IN THEIR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

Bogiesbabe April 1, 2014 at 06:53 am

People should not be able to to make salacious comments, here, without identifying themselves andRead More their connection (if any) to the events in question. Readers need to be cautious about believing or buying-in to those comments posted by people who most likely don't know "Jack".
Ralph Cavaliere March 31, 2014 at 09:24 am
To Christopher Wendt, Where did "Jack" say anything salacious in his comments on theRead More Hofstra student's death? ALL avenues of the cause of death should be explored...A young man, not yet in his prime, is a most unusual death. As far as I'm concerned, suicide is a criminal act as is homicide. It is still killing someone, even if self inflicted.....By the way, salacious is the wrong word to use in your point of view. I see nothing "salty" in his comments.

ARCH STANTON April 1, 2014 at 05:59 pm
HEY K J, YOU CAN BE AS LIBERAL AND FREE THINKING AS YOU WANT TO BE IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE. IN ARead More PREVIOUS COMMENT YOU WERE ALL FOR GETTING DRUNKS OFF THE ROAD AND SETTING UP DWI CHECKPOINTS, WHICH YOU FEEL FREE TO EXCLUDE YOURSELF FROM. YOU ARE ALREADY LIVING IN ONE OF THE LEAST OPPRESSIVE SOCIETIES IN THE WORLD, SO IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO ABIDE BY THE LAWS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME PREVIOUS PERSONAL HISTORY, THAT MAKES YOU SO VINDICTIVE. I THINK YOUR LIGHTS ARE FLICKERING LIKE RPM'S. ENOUGH SAID ON THIS TOPIC.
knee jerk April 2, 2014 at 09:54 am
Hey Arch, only if those DWI checkpoints include ALL drunks, including off duty cops and MADDRead More members. My lights may well be flickering, but yours went off a long time ago. I'VE ALSO WASTED ENOUGH TIME ON YOU-YOU'LL NEVER GET IT.

This terrible accident haunted me the last few days. My son and I were walking our dog up NassauRead More blvd and saw police cars and yellow tape across the way. We couldn't tell what was going on as we noticed no people around, so we thought perhaps a tree branch came down or maybe a burglary occurred. When I saw in The Patch later that night that a jogger was hit, I was so saddened. I thought about her and her family with a heavy heart. Seems like such a quiet and wide street with little thru traffic, that I too wondered how in the world could a driver not have seen her!
J Grippo April 5, 2014 at 09:17 pm
Unfortunately, the memory of this recent tragedy has been forgotten based on the way the motoristsRead More continue to drive in the Adelphi campus area! The pedestrians in LA during a SHARKNADO attack have better odds of survival then people around here lately! Disgraceful driving habits. My condolences to the family.

I was recently driving east on Stewart, waiting for cars to pass so I could turn left on Oxford.Read More Just as my clearing was approaching I saw a jogger on the Stewart sidewalk also headed east cross over Oxford. I know the NYPD hires these morons to fill quota's, it is hurting what was a great Department. TheseRead More are the same guys who get in trouble and make all the good men and women look bad. You have to see some of the clowns at applicant investigations who push these guys through. It's a waste to train these guys for 6 months and then have them screw up and get fired.
Massa March 29, 2014 at 02:47 pm
After 911 the NYPD dropped the starting salary down to 25,000 a year. Then they couldn't get anyone.Read More They starting letting in sone real losers through the screening. The Department is to blame. Now a lot if senior guys are leaving and that is going to hurt the Department and the city. Everything that those big classes of the late 80's and early 90's did is turning around for the worst. It is a shame.
