On Wednesday, it was the Trojans cruising to an early 10-2 lead only to see it disappear when South Side delivered a 12-run inning to jump out in front and take a 1-0 series lead over GC.  It wasn’t the type of …

I just cannot understand why our percent increase was the third highest in the county. If our schools are so good to begin with, what needs so much more improving?   more ›

What was not disclosed (other than 1 letter to the editor in the local papers) is that the tax rate for $100 of assessed value is going up to $486.644 to $550.345. What does this mean? If you assessed value from Nassau County is the same from 2011-2012 to 2012-2013, your school taxes are going up over 13%. This is facts, it is right on the Garden City School website. Too late now I guess.   more ›

Garden City Baseball Earns Walk-Off Playoff Victory

Richie Smith's Garden City squad wins a tight 3-1 game with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning over Lynbrook.

Garden City bounced back from a tough 1-0 defeat to Wantagh on Saturday with a rousing walk-off victory over Lynbrook.  The Trojans battled all game long but were stymied by Lynbrook pitcher Ian Reid until Andrew LoBasso launched a one-out rocket over the head of the Owls left fielder for a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.  With their loss on Saturday, GC was facing elimination in their second playoff game.  But with the win, they now enter the best of three quarterfinal round that begins on Wednesday. Pitching a stellar four-hitter for the Garden City Trojans was Kyle Ritchie.  He was able to keep the Lynbrook batters off balance with a good fastball, a hard breaking curve and excellent location. Ritchie finished the game …

PTA President Explains Group's Role in Garden City Budget Process

Garden City PTA Pres. Gail Madigan urges residents to vote on Tuesday and get more involved going forward.

Dear Parents and Members of the Community, As the Board of Education puts down its pencils on the 2012-2013 School Budget, we are marking the end of the first year under the constraints of tax cap legislation. This year also marked other firsts like the introduction of budget focus groups and a more open dialogue with the community. At this time, I feel the need to express to our members and our community the role of the PTA during this process. The Garden City PTA is an important advocacy group in our community and represents over 3,000 members. The beliefs of the PTA are that every child deserves to have his/her basic needs met, and an education designed to meet those needs; public education should be the appropriate forum to prepare …

Right....none of those reasons are because you are one of the wealthiest zip codes in the U.S., most households are headed by two college-educated parents, and everyone is white. I guess if you took the population of Hempstead HS and brought them in, things would stay the same, right? When your tax structure forces you to go to regional high schools, we shall see (oh, what? Letter to the Editor: Vote 'No' On Garden City School Budget

One Garden City explains why he is not supporting the 2012-13 budget on Tuesday.

To the Editor,   The Educrats control the process.  Our BOE, the Administration, the Unions and PTA cheerleaders run the show. They certainly have not earned the trust of the taxpayers.  In all the years I have been observing, have there been any permanent wage freezes or reductions as experienced in the private sector?  NEVER.  Have the benefit packages been restructured to bring them in line with the private sector?  NEVER.  Has the BOE gotten any serious concessions from the Unions?  NEVER.  Have there been any serious sacrifices made by the Public Sector members?  NEVER.  Have the taxpayers had to deal with a continually increasing school tax burden?  ALWAYS!  Do the Scholar, Athlete and Special Needs Parents fight each other for …
