Commission Addresses Truck Traffic Concerns

"No Truck Traffic" signs will be put on the east side of Cedar Place and Hamilton Place during Doubleday Court construction.

With work expected to begin on a housing project at 301 Franklin Avenue, on the south end of the Doubleday property, resident concerns about truck traffic during construction of the three-story, 54-unit condominium complex prompted the village's Traffic Commission to approve the installation of "No Truck Traffic" signs on the east side of Cedar Place and Hamilton Place.

The project, known as "Doubleday Court," is slated to be built near the Garden City-Hempstead border by the Engel Burman Group and is an "as right" development, according to building superintendent Mike Filippon. The department is currently awaiting payment of fee and deposit, which Filippon said are "substantial" in order to review plans and issue a building permit.

The Engel Burman Group describes the condominium complex as "metro-style NY living with a touch of the countryside manor ... the Upper East Side meets the charm of Garden City, with a host of exceptional amenities." Two-bed/two-bath residences with private balconies will be offered, according to the group's website, as will amenities like a 24-hour concierge.

"Garden City is one of the historic and beautiful Long Island towns that has everything. The neighborhood is alive with culture, shopping and lifestyle here elegantly easy. A short walk to sidewalk cafés, restaurants, shops and the Garden City train station reflects the ambiance of sophisticated village life. You’ll also enjoy highly ranked schools, public and private golf courses, the famous Garden City Hotel with its unsurpassed hospitality, numerous churches and synagogues and a vibrant nightlife on Franklin Avenue. This is classic, charming Garden City," Engel Burman group officials state on their website.

A modular home currently sits on the property but there hasn't been much more visible progress than that except a sign on the site that states the condos are "Coming Fall 2013."
