Excessive Heat Causing Traffic Light Malfunctions

Excessive heat is causing traffic light malfunctions at several intersections in Garden City.

Police commissioner Kenneth Jackson reminds motorists to treat a malfunctioning traffic light as a Stop sign. "This is very important for safety reasons," he said.

Most recently, on July 16, officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Cherry Valley Avenue at Stewart Avenue, a major intersection near Garden City Middle School. This light malfunctioned two more times in the past month, on June 25 and again on July 4.

Other malfunctions have occurred at the following intersections:

  • Old Country Road at County Seat Drive
  • Old Country Road at Franklin Avenue
  • Franklin Avenue at Eleventh Street
  • Clinton Road and St. James Street South
