Motorcycle Driver Succumbs to Injuries

Adelphi University alumnus Darien Yohannan was 22.

The driver of a motorcycle involved in a Wednesday afternoon accident on Stewart Avenue has died, Garden City police have confirmed.

Darien Yohannan, 22, an Adelphi University alumnus and graduate student, succumbed to his injuries after crashing into an SUV on Stewart Avenue at Roxbury Road just before noon.

Adelphi University released the following statement:

Adelphi University is saddened to learn of the passing of one of our young alumni and current graduate student, Darien Yohannan ’12. Mr. Yohannan died as the result of a tragic accident, Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

A friend of Mr. Yohannan told Patch she was "shocked and distraught" by the news of his passing. "It's so very sad, he was a young, smart, hard-working young man with his whole life ahead of him," she said.

The accident shut down Stewart Avenue this afternoon as police conducted their investigation.
