Kings Food Market has refreshed its only Long Island-based location.

As part of the refurbishing, Kings has a new, larger produce department, including more organic products, said Connie Deckel, the store manager at Kings on Franklin Avenue in Garden City.

She added that Kings now has a larger bakery and “a larger variety of fresh sandwiches that can be warmed up in two minutes. We also have gluten free sandwiches.”

Kings chief executive Judy Spires was in Garden City on Friday to celebrate the event, which includes weekend-long tastings from various vendors. Kathleen King of Southampton-based Tate’s Bake Shop was also there, signing books.

The Garden City location is holding a food drive throughout March to benefit The INN, a Hempstead-based nonprofit that helps hungry and homeless Long Islanders.

“They come in and pick up the bread every morning,” Deckel said. “But this is a special drive.”

Deckel added that the Girl Scouts and Garden City High School students help collect for The INN each weekend in March.

Parsippany, N.J.-based Kings operates 25 stores in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
