Nighttime Lane Closures Begin on Old Country Road

Closures are necessary to perform preventive maintenance repairs of the bridge.

Travel lanes will be closed on the Old Country Road Bridge over the Meadowbrook State Parkway (MSP) beginning Monday night, according to an alert from the New York State Department of Transportation.

Travel lanes will be closed and/or shifted between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday nights for approximately six weeks, weather permitting, according to the department.

All MSP ramps and two travel lanes, however, will remain open at all times.

These night time lane closures will take place first in the eastbound direction followed by the westbound direction for about three weeks in each direction, weather permitting. In addition, a travel lane in either the northbound or southbound direction may be closed on the MSP, the alert advised.

The closures are necessary to perform "preventive maintenance repairs" of the bridge in order to "maintain its structural integrity and assure its continued reliability," according to the advisement.

Electronic road signs will warn motorists of the closures but drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays in the area.

Transportation department officials say they appreciate the patience and cooperation of motorists, businesses and local residents during the maintenance work.
