Neighbors Want to Help Andover Court Fire Victims

Fellow Garden City residents Barbara Massina and Dominique Labella are collecting financial donations on the family's behalf.

Efforts are underway to help a Garden City family who lost everything in a devastating fire that engulfed their Andover Court home early Sunday.

Neighbors Barbara Massina and Dominique Labella are collecting financial donations on the family's behalf.

"I have been so completely taken aback by the outpouring of support from my friends and the community," Massina said. "So many of you want to help."

After brainstorming with Labella, Massina said they decided the best way to help this family is through financial support. Massina will travel to pick up any donations of cash, checks and/or gift cards.

The fire, which broke in the rear yard of the Andover Court home at approximately 2:14 a.m. Nov. 24, quickly spread to the home.

A 41-year-old resident was watching television when he smelled smoke, according to Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad detectives. When he looked outside, he saw a patio swing fully engulfed. He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful and the fire quickly spread, according to police.

More than 100 firefighters from Garden City and mutual aid departments responded to the scene.
