Simple Gesture Creates Halloween Wonderland at St. Paul's

Even Sandy couldn't stop the ghosts and goblins.

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, a simple gesture from a local parent sparked an email chain that created a Halloween wonderland at St. Paul's for Garden City's youngsters Wednesday.

Parents armed with candy and kids flocked to St. Paul's at 1 p.m. so super heroes and fairy princesses could trick or treat safely amidst a major power outage that knocked out traffic lights all over the village.

Resident Dana Caporicci told Patch she got wind of the get together less than two hours before it kicked off.

"I was there with the kids ... A parent (that I do not know) started the email and people just kept forwarding and forwarding it. I only heard about it at 11:30 a.m. and they pulled a nice group of kids together," Caporicci said.

"It made the day feel a little more like Halloween. Kids got to fill their bags with candy while parents exchanged their stories of power outages and downed trees."

Approximately 150 kids attended.
