Crime Blotter: Alcohol Poisoning, Clinton Road Break-In

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 8: Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 18-year-old from Brooklyn for duping an Adelphi student to give personal information in March of this year, which was then used to withdraw $1,200 from her bank account. He was charged with grand larceny.

May 8: A resident was upstairs in her Clinton Road residence when she heard her unlocked screen door open. When the resident went downstairs, it was determined that someone entered the residence, took a pocketbook containing credit cards and money from the kitchen and then exited the residence. The investigation is ongoing.

May 8: A male 68-year-old from Jericho was issued an appearance ticket for shooting a BB gun at signs in Stewart Field.

May 8: The department is investigating the theft of business records from a Franklin Avenue business office.

May 9: Officers responded to Franklin Avenue where a male 39-year-old from Freeport states that he was riding his bike on the shoulder of the roadway when he was struck by a side mirror of a passing auto injuring his head and shoulder. The vehicle stopped but left without exchanging information prior to police arrival. The vehicle is described as a silver Jeep and the operator is described as a male white, 40-50, tall thin build, black hair and wearing glasses.

May 9: Upon seeing a vehicle stopped on Stewart Avenue at Arthur Street at 4 a.m. in the middle lane with its lights off, Officer Oswald conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a female 22-year-old from Woodside for DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), impeding traffic, defective headlights and uninsured operation.

May 9: Officer Hennessy arrested a male 54-year-old and a female 34-year-old, both from Brooklyn, for attempting to extort $6,000 from a Whitestone male at his Garden City place of business by threatening to go public with a false claim against him.

May 10: A gray vehicle struck a vehicle parked in a handicap space in Parking Field #11 before leaving the scene without stopping.

May 10: A 17-year-old youth was transported to a local hospital for alcohol poisoning.

May 11: A pocketbook was taken from a cart of a shopper at Kings Supermarket. 

May 11: Two bushes in the front of a Third Street residence were damaged. 

May 11: A black vehicle left the scene of a property damage accident that occurred in Parking Field #8.

May 11: Officer Russell stopped a vehicle for speeding on Franklin Avenue resulting in the driver, a male 22-year-old from Brentwood, being arrested for aggravated DWI (.19 percent blood alcohol content), aggravated unlicensed operation, speeding and driving without headlights on.

May 12: Garden City and Nassau County officers arrested a male 51-year-old from Lawrence at Adelphi for assault as a result of a domestic incident that occurred in West Hempstead.

May 12: Officer Sommer arrested a male 21-year-old from Manhasset on Ninth Street for DWI (drugs), aggravated unlicensed operation first degree due to a prior DWI Incident and aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree due to three open license suspensions.

May 12: Officer Sansone arrested a female 36-year-old from Queens for the theft of three watches valued at $60 from Sears.

May 13: A student reports the theft of his wallet from a dorm room in New Hall at Adelphi University.

May 13: Officers responded to a two-vehicle property damage auto accident on Hilton Avenue at Sixth Street where one of the vehicles left the scene without exchanging information. Garden City detectives conducted an investigation resulting in the arrest of a female 53-year-old from Roslyn for leaving the scene of an accident.

May 14: Officers responded to Stratford School for a report of a bomb threat. The building was evacuated and searched with negative results.

May 14: Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 24-year-old from Queens for forcible touching and harassment due to an incident that occurred in his vehicle with a female victim on May 9.
