Crime Blotter: Forced Entry, School Zone Speeding and a Stolen Flag

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 13: A Blackberry phone was removed from a vehicle parked at an Osborne Road residence.

March 13: Officer Roumeliotis was assigned to traffic enforcement on Rockaway Avenue in the vicinity of Garden City High School when he stopped a male 24-year-old from Freeport for speeding in a school zone (50 MPH in a 20 MPH Zone). He was subsequently arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation due to 20 open license suspensions, unlicensed operation, speeding in a school zone and excessive tinted windows.

March 14: Officer Oswald observed a male 19-year-old from Mastic driving his vehicle northbound on Clinton Road when he made an illegal right turn from the left lane onto Meadow Street. The driver then drove on the wrong side of Meadow Street and passed a Stop sign. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was subsequently arrested for DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe turn, failing to signal turn, driving on the wrong side of the road, unlicensed operation and passing a Stop sign.

March 14: An East Drive resident discovered deep scratches on the hood of his vehicle which was parked in his driveway.

March 15: Officer Roumeliotis stopped a commercial vehicle on Clinton Road at Locust Street for numerous equipment violations. The driver, a male 57-year-old from Hicksville, was arrested after it was determined that he had 6 open driver's license suspensions. He was also charged with 12 equipment violations including a defective muffler, no rear detection system, three unsafe tires, a defective emergency brake and defective/missing lights and reflectors.

March 15: A flag and flag pole were stolen from a porch to a Russell Road residence.

March 16: Officer Oswald arrested a male 23-year-old from Freeport on Clinton Road for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), aggravated unlicensed operation due to a suspended license, tailgating, unsafe lane usage and uninsured operation.

March 16: A side door window to a Cambridge Avenue residence was damaged by unknown means.

March 17: Officer Sommer arrested a male 22-year-old from Franklin Square for criminal trespass after forcibly entering a New Hyde Park Road residence in an intoxicated state and refusing to leave when informed to do so by the owner of the residence.

March 17: Officer Oswald observed a vehicle westbound on Meadow Street go around a vehicle stopped at a red light at Clinton Road and continue traveling west at 45 MPH. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a male 41-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested for felony DWI due to a prior DWI arrest, felony aggravated license due to his license being suspended for a prior DWI, passing a red light, two lane violations, speeding and driving without a court ordered interlock system.

March 17: Officer Sansone arrested a male 24-year-old from Hempstead for possession of marijuana during a traffic violation investigation on Clinton Road at Wyatt Road. The subject was also charged with unsafe lane usage, driving with a suspended license, missing front plate and uninspected auto.

March 17: Officer Wedra arrested a female 18-year-old from Garden City for obstruction of government administration after interfering with a police investigation on Franklin Court.

March 18: Officer Oswald stopped a male 41-year-old from Glen Cove for numerous traffic infractions on Clinton Road and Pine Street. The subject was arrested for aggravated DWI (.19 percent blood alcohol content), passing a Stop sign, unsafe turn, two lane violations, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.

March 18: Officers monitored the departure of the circus train on the Hempstead railroad line. There were minor delays at some of the railroad crossings.

March 18: A laptop computer valued at $400 was taken from a room in a Franklin Avenue office building.
