Crime Blotter: Garden City Man Arrested After Allegedly Choking Family Member

Police arrested a 31-year-old man during the domestic incident.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 14: Police Aide Alilionis issued an appearance ticket to a Westbury business for dumping construction debris in a handicap parking space on Kellum Place.

Nov. 20: Officer Federlein was conducting traffic enforcement on Clinton Road when he observed a vehicle traveling south in the vicinity of Avalon Road at 55 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a male 22-year-old from Coram, was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (five license suspensions/revocations), speeding, tinted windows and missing front plate.

Nov. 21: Officer Touhy responded to the Garden City Library for a reported theft of DVDs. Upon his investigation, a male 35-year-old from Hempstead was arrested for the theft of 14 DVDs. In addition, a companion of the subject, a male 53-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested at the scene after being recognized as the subject wanted for the theft of 12 DVDs from the library on Nov. 9.

Nov. 22: Officer Florio observed a vehicle traveling west on Stewart Avenue making a right turn onto Franklin Avenue without stopping for a red light and then proceed north on Franklin Avenue at 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The vehicle was stopped and upon an investigation, the driver, a male 29-year-old from Garden City, was arrested for Driving While Impaired by Alcohol (.06 percent blood alcohol content), speeding and two turn/lane violations.

Nov. 23: A large rock was thrown through a window at the Mobil station located on Franklin Avenue.

Nov. 24: According to detectives, a male 69-year-old from Garden City was operating his 2001 Nissan Pathfinder attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Old Country Road from northbound Linden Street. He struck a motorcycle which was traveling eastbound in the right lane of Old Country Road and failed to stop. The operator of the motorcycle, a male 29-year-old from Mineola, suffered internal injuries as well as a partial amputation of his right foot. He was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition.  A Garden City patrol officer located the defendant driving on a side street in close proximity to the accident.

Nov. 24: A male 19-year-old from Hicksville was arrested for a burglary in Garden City. According to detectives, Garden City police officers responded to a Roosevelt Avenue residence on Sept. 3 for a report of an alarm. The officers discovered window screens on the first and second floor had been cut and an unknown person had entered the second floor of the home. No proceeds were reported stolen. The officers notified the Nassau County Police Crime Scene Unit to respond after discovering apparent fingerprints. The Crime Scene Unit was able to obtain a latent finger print that matched the defendant, Christian Pagan, 19. Pagan is charged with burglary 2nd degree and was arraigned Nov. 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Nov. 24: Officer Oswald arrested a male 24-year-old from Roslyn, in the vicinity of Meadow Street and Washington Avenue, after observing him speeding southbound on Franklin Avenue and not signaling turns onto Main Street and then Meadow Street, while continuing to drive recklessly on Meadow Street committing numerous other traffic violations. The subject was arrested for DWI (.14 percent blood alcohol content), reckless driving, speeding, five lane/turn violations, a Stop sign violation, uninsured, uninspected and unregistered operation.

Nov. 24: Officer Sansone arrested a female 17-year-old from Queens, for possession of a forged instrument and attempted petit larceny after attempting to cash a forged check at TD Bank in the name of a New Jersey business.

Nov. 24: Officer Russell arrested a male 25-year-old from Queens for the theft of $682 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor.

Nov. 25: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle traveling north on Clinton Road after observing it fail to signal lane changes and for driving over the center lane markings. The driver, a male 28-year-old from Port Washington, was arrested and charged with DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), three lane violations, not wearing a seat belt, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.

Nov. 26: A male 31-year-old from Garden City was arrested during a domestic incident for choking another family member and for intentionally damaging that person’s property.

Nov. 26: Officer Sansone stopped a male 25-year-old from Hempstead for speeding (50 MPH) on Clinton Road at Willow Street. The subject was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation for having a driver's license suspension due to a previous DWI arrest.

Nov. 26: A female 47-year-old from Glen Oaks was cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident that occurred on Nassau Boulevard on Nov. 21.

Nov. 27: Several parked vehicles were entered during the overnight hours on Rockaway Avenue, Dover Avenue, Brompton Road and Whitehall Boulevard. A GPS, money and other electronic components were taken from one vehicle and a GPS and a charger was taken from another vehicle.

Nov. 27: Garden City officers assisted Nassau County officers who had stopped a vehicle on Rockaway Avenue as a result of an investigation that originated in Mineola. The Nassau police officers arrested three occupants in the vehicle (male 20-year-old from West Hempstead, a female 19-year-old from Greenvale and a female 18-year-old from Oyster Bay) for possession of the drug Ecstasy. A fourth subject, a male 19-year-old from Franklin Square, had fled the scene on foot. Officer Matos patrolled the area looking for the subject and observed him in a taxi cab a short distance away. He stopped the vehicle and placed the subject under arrest for possession of Ecstasy.
