Crime Blotter: Marijuana Possession, Seatbelt Enforcement and Stolen Meds

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 21: A female subject stole $556 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor and as she was exiting the store, a store security officer attempted to apprehend her. The security officer was able to take the proceeds from the subject who then fled the area. The investigation is continuing.

May 22: A backpack containing credit cards and cash were removed from a vehicle parked at a Rockaway Avenue residence.

May 22: The Garden City Police Department assisted the Nassau County Police Memorial Service held on Franklin Avenue at 14th Street.

May 23: While on patrol on Rockaway Avenue, Officer Byrd discovered a one-vehicle crash had occurred at South Gate and the vehicle was now on its side. The driver, a male 24-year-old from Garden City, was removed from the vehicle and subsequently arrested for DWI and possession of a switchblade knife. He was also treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

May 23: Officer Reilly arrested a female 26-year-old from Patchogue for aggravated unlicensed operation and not wearing a seatbelt. The subject had 21 outstanding driver's license suspensions.

May 24: Officers removed a large limb from the roadway which was causing a hazardous condition on Cherry Valley Avenue.

May 24: Garden City detectives and Nassau County probation officers arrested a male 20-year-old at his Cathedral Avenue residence for possession of marijuana and for an open Hempstead traffic warrant.

May 25: A briefcase and a GPS were stolen from a vehicle parked on Brook Street.

May 25: Officers safeguarded a dangerous condition on New Hyde Park Road where a large tree limb was hanging onto power lines until the scene was cleared by LIPA.

May 26: Detectives are investigating an incident on Raymond Court where witnesses observed a red vehicle collide with a parked vehicle before leaving the scene without stopping.

May 27: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road for several aggressive driving violations (speeding, unsafe lane change, and driving on the wrong side of the road). In addition to the aggressive driving violations, the driver, a male 33-year-old3 from Copiague, was arrested for DWI (.09 percent blood alcohol content), felony aggravated unlicensed operation due to a prior DWI suspension and uninsured operation.

May 27: Officer Reilly arrested a female 46-year-old from Hicksville on Franklin Avenue after committing the theft of a thermometer and over-the-counter medication valued at $70 from CVS.

May 27: Fence parts valued at $200 were removed from a Hampton Road property.

May 20-28: Officers conducted seatbelt enforcement checkpoints throughout the village as part of the New York State Buckle-Up NY Initiative. Results: 50 seatbelt violations, one child seat violation, 23 miscellaneous traffic violations and 1 arrest for a driver having a suspended license.
