Crime Blotter: Meadow Street Break-In, Bank Manager Arrested

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

April 9: An unknown vehicle struck and damaged a parked vehicle at Adelphi University and then left the scene.

April 9: Detectives are investigating an incident where a UPS shipment delivered to a Fifth Street address was not received by the resident.

April 10: A relative discovered that someone had entered a house on Meadow Street apparently through a bathroom window and kicked holes in the sheetrock walls and turned on the water in the basement.

April 10: Officer Reilly discovered a vehicle with no plates parked and an expired New Jersey registration in a handicap space behind the Pay Half store. The vehicle was impounded and the owner cited for parking in a handicap space, uninspected, and for being unregistered/no license plates.

April 11: A car parked in Parking Field 7N was damaged. The damage consisted of numerous scratches on the passenger side of the vehicle.

April 12: A male 25-year-old from Plainview was cited for disregarding a bridge clearance sign after driving his truck southbound on Nassau Boulevard and colliding with the Nassau Boulevard overpass. There were no injuries reported but there was extensive damage to the vehicle.

April 12: A Lido Beach company was issued two tickets for posting advertisement signs on streets within the village in violation of the village code.

April 12: With cooperation and assistance from Community National Bank personnel, Officer Caputo arrested a bank manager, a female 49-year-old from Jamaica, for the theft of $3,800 from a customer’s account. The bank is located on Franklin Avenue.

April 13: An iPhone and wallet were removed from an unattended backpack left on a park bench on the Adelphi University grounds.

April 13: Officer Byrd was on patrol when he observed a vehicle pass a red light southbound on Roslyn Road on to eastbound Old Country Road. He stopped the vehicle and upon an investigation, arrested the operator, a male 24-year-old from Lindenhurst, for aggravated DWI (.20 percent blood alcohol content), passing a red light, a lane violation, defective tail lights and uninsured operation.

April 14: Officer Walsh arrested a male 47-year-old from West Hempstead for the theft of $84 in merchandise from Sears.

April 14: Officers were assigned to assist with traffic and crowd control issues on Old Country Road due to a free speech demonstration with Pamela Geller that was held in front of the Nassau County Human Rights Office.

April 15: Police conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Nassau Boulevard: 16 vehicles were inspected of which six were placed out of service; 83 tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations, including 10 overweight violations, one suspended license, one operating out of class, two unsecure load violations and one brake violation.

April 15: Officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department with a hazardous material spill in the Science Building at Adelphi University. Officers assisted in the safeguarding of the scene while also tending to several exposure injuries. One victim was transported to a local hospital.

April 16: Officers responded to a Garden City address where two residents were engaged in a dispute. Upon an investigation, a male 44-year-old was arrested for harassment after pushing a female resident to the ground in the driveway causing a laceration to her hand.

April 16: With the assistance of witnesses, Officer Roumeliotis located and charged a male 59-year-old from Bellmore with leaving the scene of an accident after he backed his vehicle out of a driveway onto Boylston Street striking a parked vehicle and then fleeing the scene without stopping.
