Crime Blotter: Coffee Shop Break-In, Suspicious Person on Locust Street

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 22
: Sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle parked at a Meadow Street residence.

Oct. 23
: Officers responded to the Garden City Coffee Shop on Franklin Avenue where unknown person(s) apparently pried open a rear door, entered the premise and removed money from two cash registers.

Oct. 23
: Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Hilton Avenue crossing.

Oct. 23
: A cement mixer fell off a trailer on New Hyde Park Road. Officer Federlein responded and safeguarded the area. In addition, the driver of the towing vehicle was issued 21 tickets for traffic and safety violations including, unsecured loads, uncovered load, improper trailer hitch, unsecured cab body and defective safety chains.

Oct. 24
: The police department monitored and assisted Garden City Middle School with an emergency evacuation drill. The drill was conducted without incident.

Oct. 25
: A rear window to a home on Roxbury Road was found damaged.

Oct. 25
: Loose change was removed from a vehicle parked at a College Place residence.

Oct. 25
: Police conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Clinton Road; 12 vehicles were inspected, five were placed out of service and 88 tickets were issued for various traffic and safety infractions including eight overweight violations, two defective brake violations and a gasoline leak violation.

Oct. 26
: Officer Caputo arrested a 61-year-old Hempstead man for the theft of $208 in merchandise from Sears.

Oct. 26
: Officer Marceda stopped a vehicle on Stewart Avenue and Rockaway Avenue for defective brake lights and subsequently arrested the driver, a 61-year-old man from Queens, for driving with four driver's license suspensions.

Oct. 27
: A windshield wiper on a vehicle parked in Parking Field # 6 was found damaged.

: Two tires to a vehicle parked in Parking Field 6E were found slashed.

Oct. 27
: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle on Meadow Street for aggressive driving violations at Magnolia Avenue. The driver, a 27-year-old Hempstead man, was arrested for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), speeding, passing a Stop sign and an unsafe turn.

Oct. 27
: Four vehicles on Meadow Street, Chestnut Street and Willow Street were entered during the overnight hours. There were no losses reported.

Oct. 27
: Police report a domestic incident in which a 49-year-old Garden City man was arrested by Officer Milito for damaging another family member's property and then threatening harm to that person.

Oct. 27
: Sgt. Jacobsen and Officer Dallolio observed and apprehended a 20-year-old man from Mahopac and an 18-year-old from Oceanside for trespassing on the grounds of the Garden City Bus Garage. In addition, the 20-year-old was found to be in possession of a bottle of vodka and was charged with alcohol possession.

Oct. 28
: Officer Russell responded to a suspicious persons call on Locust Street which resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Hempstead for an outstanding Southampton warrant for aggravated harassment.
