Crime Blotter: Arson, Train Station Drug Bust

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 16
: The Garden City police and fire departments as well as the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office, are investigating a suspicious fire in Parking Field #6 where a fence and shrubbery were apparently set on fire intentionally.

July 16
: An unlocked mountain bike valued at $250 left on Seventh Street was reported stolen.

July 17
: A fender to a vehicle parked on Seventh Street was found to be damaged by unknown means.

July 17
: A Stewart Manor male reports locking his bicycle to a bike rack at the Stewart Manor railroad station at 7 a.m. and it was not there when he returned at 7:30 p.m.

July 17
: A male 18-year-old from Garden City South, a male 18-year-old from Franklin Square, a female 20-year-old from Garden City and a male 20-year-old from Malverne were issued appearance tickets for trespassing after being observed by an officer in Community Park after 12 a.m., several hours after the park closed.

July 17
: PA Cutrone conducted an investigation of a vehicle parked in a no parking zone on Kellum Place which resulted in the vehicle being impounded for improper license plates, unregistered vehicle and uninspected vehicle.

July 18
: A tire and a roof rack to a vehicle were damaged while parked at a Maple Street residence.

July 18
: Officers responded to traffic light outages on Stewart Avenue at Cherry Valley Avenue and on Franklin Avenue at Ninth Street.

July 19
: As a result of an ongoing investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 19-year-old from Elmont for criminal sale and criminal possession of a half-ounce of marijuana at the Nassau Boulevard train station. During the investigation, an acquaintance of the subject, a male 18-year-old from Elmont was arrested for possession of a forged Florida driver’s license.

July 19
: A Franklin Avenue business suffered a loss of $2,100 when an unauthorized check was cashed at a New York City location.

July 20
: Officers responded to a dangerous condition on Brook Street for a large fallen tree limb in the roadway apparently caused by high winds.

July 21
: Officer Oswald stopped a male 43-year-old from Huntington for driving his vehicle in an unsafe manner on Clinton Road by swerving from lane to lane causing it to strike and mount curbing. The subject was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), two unsafe lane violations, not wearing a seatbelt and uninsured operation.

July 22
: A resident reports an unauthorized online transaction of more than $1,000 using his credit card information.

July 23
: Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Washington Avenue at St. James Street South.

July 23
: Money ($500) was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in Parking Field #10.

July 23
: Numerous eggs were thrown at a vehicle parked at a Kensington Road residence causing extensive damage to the paint. Eggs were also thrown at a Kildare Road residence.

July 23
: Officer Punch stopped a vehicle with a defective brake light on Franklin Avenue. The driver, a male 41-year-old from Roosevelt, was placed under arrest for 26 outstanding driving license suspensions as welled as a revoked license due to an administrative violation.

July 24
: Police officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department with a basement fire on Franklin Court.

Court News:
On July 15, a vehicle was impounded by a Garden City police officer in Parking Field 9E. On July 18, a vehicle was impounded by an officer in Parking Field 7E. These vehicles were designated as Garden City Village Court scofflaws due to unpaid parking tickets.
