Crime Blotter: Bike Accident, Car Break-Ins at Community Park

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 11: Garden City detectives arrested a female 54-year-old from Shohola, PA for criminal contempt. The subject contacted a family member in Garden City on Aug. 30 in violation of a Nassau County Court stay away order.

Sept. 11: Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a female 60-year-old and a male 44-year-old, unknown addresses, for the theft of $200 from a bag belonging to a library patron on Sept. 6. The subjects took the bag from a rest room, removed the money and placed the bag in the library’s book drop.

Sept. 11: Officers responded to County Seat Drive where a bicyclist traveling south collided with a car door that was just opened. The bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for chest and shoulder injuries.

Sept. 11: A window to a vehicle parked on Second Street was smashed and money was removed from within.

Sept. 12: Police report $400 was removed from a register and an iPod was stolen from a handbag at a Hilton Avenue business.

Sept. 12: Officer Punch conducted an investigation on Roxbury Road resulting in the arrest of a female 32-year-old from Garden City for an outstanding Suffolk County felony warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation, DWI and criminal impersonation.

Sept. 13: A pocketbook was stolen from one vehicle and a backpack was stolen from another vehicle at Garden City Community Park.

Sept. 13: Detectives arrested a male 42-year-old from Garden City for forcibly entering the rear fenced in area at an Old Broadway business on Sept. 11 and Sept. 13, both at approximately 2 a.m. The subject was charged two counts of criminal trespass.

Sept. 13: Officer Touhy arrested a female 49-year-old from Franklin Square for felony larceny of $1,085 in assorted merchandise from Lord & Taylor. She was also charged with an outstanding Hempstead Village traffic warrant.

Sept. 13: Officer Roumeliotis stopped a vehicle on East Drive for driving with tinted windows. Upon further investigation, the subject was arrested for driving without an interlock system in his vehicle as ordered by a judge based on a prior DWI conviction. He was also charged with driving with a revoked license for a prior DWI, six additional driver license suspensions and tinted windows.

Sept. 13: Garden City detectives arrested a female 22-year-old and a male 31-year-old, both from Elmont, at the Nassau Boulevard train station for possession and sale of cocaine. The male 31-year-old was also charged with outstanding Nassau County warrants for marijuana possession and traffic offenses.

Sept. 13: Police conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Clinton Road, inspecting 14 vehicles, placing seven out of service and issuing 79 traffic tickets for various traffic and safety violations, including 15 overweight violations, four improperly secured load violations and two defective brake violations.

Sept. 14: A bicycle was stolen from the lawn of a Nassau Boulevard residence.

Sept. 14: Officer Oswald observed a vehicle traveling north on Meadow Place in violation of a one-way sign. The driver, a male 28-year-old from Roosevelt, was arrested for aggravated DWI (.19 percent blood alcohol content), driving the wrong way on a one-way Street, unsafe turning, possession of marijuana and uninsured operation.

Sept. 16: Officer Sansone charged a male 24-year-old from Hempstead for driving on Clinton Road with four children, ages 2, 2, 3 and 8, without being properly secured by child or booster seats. The driver was also charged with driving with an altered transporter plate, unregistered auto and uninsured auto. The vehicle was impounded.

Sept. 16: Four tires and rims were stolen from a vehicle parked at a New Hyde Park Road residence.

Sept. 16: Lawn ornaments were removed from the property of a Roxbury Road residence.

Sept. 16: Witnesses state that a black sedan struck and damaged a parked vehicle in Parking Field 7N before leaving the scene without stopping.

Sept. 17: Officer Sansone stopped a male 28-year-old from Roosevelt for speeding (45 MPH) and no visible license plates on Clinton Road and Poplar Street. Upon an investigation, the vehicle was impounded and the driver was charged with speeding, improper transporter plates, unregistered auto, uninspected auto and uninsured auto. 

Sept. 17: Officer Hennessy stopped a vehicle on Franklin Avenue for no front plate and defective brake lamps. The driver, a male 45-year-old from Queens, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation for having two outstanding driver license suspensions.
