Crime Blotter: Forcible Touching, Gate Malfunctions and a Struck Overpass

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 28: A resident reports the theft or loss of a cell phone in Parking Field #8. 
April 1: A watch valued at $500 was reported stolen in the vicinity of Fifteenth Street.

April 2: Two subjects withdrew $1,000 from a bank using the identity of a Adelphi sUniversity student without authorization or permission.

April 4: Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Nassau Boulevard crossing.

April 4: Garden City detectives arrested a male 23-year-old from New Hyde Park for sexual offenses against a female acquaintance at a location within the village in February. He was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse in the 3rd degree.

April 5: Officer Hennessy arrested a female 47-year-old from Cedarhurst for the theft of $1,196 in assorted clothing from Lord & Taylor. She was charged with grand larceny.

April 5: Officer Touhy cited a male 34-year-old from NY, NY for disobeying a bridge clearance sign after striking the Cherry Valley overpass with his truck. There were no injuries reported.

April 6: Officers were assigned to traffic details to assist with the annual Little League parade.

April 6: Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Franklin Avenue train crossing.

April 7: Officer Oswald stopped a female 19-year-old from Hempstead for driving her vehicle 50 MPH in a 30 MPH zone southbound on Clinton Road at Garden Street. She was subsequently arrested for DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), speeding and two lane violations.

April 7: A vehicle parked in the Nassau Boulevard railroad parking field was found damaged. The damage consisted of a smashed windshield and broken side mirrors.

April 8: Police conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Clinton Road: 15 vehicles inspected, nine placed out of service. In addition, 76 tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations including seven for overweight, five for defective brakes, two for improperly secured load and two for unlicensed operation.

April 8: Officers Walsh and Fracassa assisted NCPD with an arrest on Old Country Road for a shoplifter from Roosevelt Field Mall who had fled the scene.

April 9: Officer Sansone conducted a traffic investigation on Clinton Road at Poplar Street, where the vehicle stopped was impounded and the driver, a male 37-year-old from North Carolina, was cited for suspended registration, unlicensed operation, unregistered auto, uninsured auto and for not wearing a seatbelt.

April 9: Officers responded to Cathedral Avenue at First Street for a traffic light malfunction.

Court News

April 9: Garden City officers impounded two vehicles that were declared scofflaws by the Village Justice Court due to unpaid parking tickets.
