Student Approached While Walking Home Near Tremont Street

Two males believed to be in their teens offered the student candy before laughing and driving away, according to superintendent Dr. Robert Feirsen.

A student walking home in the vicinity of Tremont Street was stopped by two males believed to be in their teens who asked the student if the student wanted candy, according to an alert issued to parents on the Garden City School District's website Friday.

Before the student could reply, the two males in the car, who appeared to be recording the incident with a cell phone, laughed and left the scene, according to the alert.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Feirsen said the Garden City Police Department alerted him of the incident Friday morning.

"Nonetheless, we want to inform you of this incident as part of our continued efforts to ensure the safety of all students. I encourage you to use this notification as an opportunity to review safety rules with your children and remind them to avoid circumstances that increase their vulnerability. Please be assured that we will continue to keep you informed as warranted," Dr. Feirsen stated.

Police commissioner Kenneth Jackson wasn't immediately available for comment.
