The New York State Department of Education has announced that four of the rescheduled Common Core forums with commissioner John King will take place on Long Island, including one at nearby Mineola High School Nov. 13.
Mineola High School is located at 10 Armstrong Road in Garden City Park. The forum will be held between 4-6:30 p.m.
The debut Town Hall was held Oct. 10 at Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie. King said the disruptions at that meeting caused by the "special interests" deprived parents of the opportunity to listen and ask questions. He later suspended all subsequent meetings, including one scheduled for Oct. 15 at Garden City High School.
Parents across the state blasted King, calling him a coward who couldn't face the criticism. King soon after did an about face and said he and the NYS Board of Regents will hold a dozen forums through Dec. 9. State legislators will moderate the events.
The other three forums scheduled for Long Island include:
- Nov. 12 at Ward Melville High School, 380 Old Town Road in East Setauket, between 6-8 p.m.
- Nov. 26 in Riverhead (Location TBD) between 6-8 p.m.
- Dec. 9 in Nassau County (Location and Time TBD)
