Homestead Addition Receives National Architectural Award

School recipient of the American School & University 2013 Crow Island School Citation Award as the #1 K-12 Interior Design in America.

In 2009, community members approved an ambitious $36.5 million bond to expand three schools and accomplish comprehensive improvements at all nine of the district’s buildings.

One of the three additions was the now-complete art/music and library/media center addition at Homestead.

Designed by BBS Architects of Patchogue, the addition was named a winner and recipient of the American School & University 2013 Crow Island School Citation Award as the #1 K-12 Interior Design in America.

The addition was completed for the opening of the 2012-2013 school year and has provided new learning spaces for Homestead’s students.

“The new addition is amazing!” Homestead principal Dr. Suzanne Viscovich said. “The music room, especially designed with the acoustics in mind, is wonderful; the risers are beautiful and provide the students with a useful practice space prior to concerts. The music space doubles alternately as an art room – a bright and airy classroom - an inspiration to budding young artists. The new library/media center facilitated students’ research efforts through World Book Kids last spring when completing their non-fiction reports. We love it!”
