Meetings Continue on New Adelphi Construction

Adelphi officials said they plan to break ground on the 94,000 square foot "anchor building" this fall and have the building "go online" fall 2015.

Garden City's Architectural Design Review Board and Planning Commission continue to hold meetings on the proposed construction of what's been dubbed the Nexus Building at Adelphi University

"The project requires a special exception permit," building superintendent Mike Filippon said.

The university hopes to erect what Filippon describes as an L-shaped" building in front of the Swirbul Library to house classroom space for its new College of Nursing, along with a welcoming center and administration space.

Adelphi officials said they plan to break ground on the 94,000 square foot "anchor building" this fall and have the building "go online" fall 2015.

"This state-of-the-art green building will feature energy efficient systems and will allow the university to take less efficient buildings offline for renovation—significantly enhancing the energy efficiency of the entire campus," according to the Adelphi Office of Public Affairs. "It will include forward-looking technologies, clinical simulation, research and informatics labs and over 15 21st-century learning spaces adding over 11,400 square-feet of classrooms and over 21,000 square-feet for our health-related programs to support and enhance the skills of our graduates in these areas.

"We also envision making these state-of-the-art learning spaces such as the simulation labs available to our regional healthcare partners for professional development thereby expanding the reach and impact of the facilities."

More meetings are scheduled for May.
