Crime Blotter: More Than $1K Stolen From the Garden City Pool

The screen to an office window was broken and three checks were stolen, police said.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 31: An unlocked vehicle on Washington Avenue was rummaged through. No items reported missing at this time.

Aug. 31: Between noon and 1 p.m., someone entered a Verizon work van while the operator was on a service call at a Meadow Street residence and removed a cell phone valued at $299.

Aug. 31: After an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 30-year-old from Brooklyn for opening a credit account using a forged license of an uninvolved person when purchasing $1,400 in clothing from Sears on Aug. 17. The subject was charged with identity theft, grand larceny and forgery.

Aug. 31: A wallet containing a credit card was removed from a vehicle at a Kenwood Road residence.

Sept. 1: A Franklin Avenue business reports that a fraudulent company check in an amount exceeding $6,000 was cashed in Paramus, NJ.

Sept. 1: A briefcase was reported stolen from a vehicle parked outside the Mint Club on Ring Road. The briefcase was found nearby with some personal items reported to be missing.

Sept. 2: A Garden City officer responded to the vicinity of 400 County Seat Drive where a Nassau County public safety officer discovered numerous hypodermic needles. The items were safely removed by the officer.

Sept. 3: Police report a burlgary in which the screen to an office window at the Garden City Pool was found broken and three checks, totally $1,125, were determined to be missing from the building.

Sept. 3: An EZ Pass was removed from an unlocked vehicle parked at a Chestnut Street residence.

Sept. 3: The convertible roof to a vehicle parked at a St. James Street South residence was found cut and several CDs were removed from inside the vehicle.

Sept. 5: A Schwinn bicycle valued at $400 was stolen from a Cathedral Avenue garage.

Sept. 5: A Meadow Street resident reports that someone had slashed his convertible roof to his vehicle that was parked in the street.

Sept. 6: Officers were assigned to a traffic detail for a traffic light malfunction at Cherry Valley Avenue and Stewart Avenue.

Sept. 7: Officer Reilly stopped a vehicle for speeding in a school zone (40 mph in a 20-mph zone) on Rockaway Avenue in front of Garden City High School. Upon an investigation, it was determined that the subject, a male 25-year-old from Hempstead, had five outstanding NY DMV driver's license suspensions and was found to be in possession of two packages of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding in a school zone.
