UPDATE: Missing Garden City South Woman's Sister Praises Police

Virginia McFadden, 57, was found Monday and is being evaluated at a local hospital.

Update (8/16): McFadden's sister contacted Patch to tell us that Detective Rios of Nassau County's 5th Precinct was "instrumental in communicating with my family in the active search for my sister and acted as a diligent liason even though it was not his department."

"My family was impressed by Detective Rios's professionalism and compassion and will meet with him in person to meet the man that when above and beyond," she said.

Update (8/15): Virginia McFadden has been found, according to her daughter Christine McFadden-Scott's Facebook page.

The Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) issued a Silver Alert when family members reported the 57-year-old Garden City South woman missing on Saturday afternoon.

McFadden is described as a white woman with blonde hair and hazel green eyes standing 5' 4" and weighing 140 pounds. McFadden is described by authorities as being bipolar.

She called a neighbor and asked her to take care of her mother, according to police. She was last seen driving on Hempstead Turnpike in a blue 1999 Ford Escort, New York license plate number FJK4397, at about noon Saturday.

Anyone who has information on her location should call the NCPD at 516-573-7298.

The Silver Alert Program is a county-wide law enforcement program which helps locate missing persons with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or other cognitive disorders.
