Child Care Council of Nassau Adds Two Garden City Residents to Board of Directors

Child Care Council of Nassau (Council) is delighted to share that they have added six new members to their 2013-2014 Board of Directors. The new members are from various parts of Long Island, and each and every one of them brings to the board different backgrounds and sets of skills that will be useful and beneficial to Council.

Bernadette DiPrisco lives in Garden City and works as an Associate in tax and corporate law for Farrell Fritz, P.C. in Uniondale. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served on the Executive Board of The Tax Lawyer. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Davidson College.

In addition to working with children as a coach, babysitter and tutor in her community over the last ten years, DiPrisco has also been a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Westchester County Bar Association.

“Since returning to Long Island after law school,” DiPrisco says, “I have become more eager to be a more active participant in my community.” Serving on the Board for Council is an ideal way for DiPrisco to blend her interests of children, law and community.

Harriette McDonough, also from Garden City, is Founder and CEO of Three Arms: Energy Balancing. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Licensed Master Social Worker degree. Her private practice provides therapy to people of all ages suffering from mental health issues. McDonough has provided marketing and advertising expertise for both proprietary and nonprofit organizations to improve their image, enhance awareness, and expand services for companies such as Aspen Education Group, Stonington Institute, Better Homes and Gardens, and IBM.

McDonough is currently on the Board of Regents at Winthrop University Hospital, as well as a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology. In the past, she has served on the Boards of both the Coalition for Child Care in Nassau County and the Family and Children’s Association.

“I have always understood and had a passion for helping to provide stable environments for young children,” McDonough says. “I am alarmed that there is not a supported nationwide system in place for child care in the United States. Advocating and supporting efforts here in Nassau County is how I can best contribute to this effort.”

Council’s 16 Board Members will each be serving 3-year terms, for a maximum of three terms. Board member duties include: being an enthusiastic and knowledgeable voice for Council, acting as ambassadors for the mission of the agency, serving actively on at least one committee, contributing financially to the organization, and educating oneself on the issues and advocacy needed to promote high-quality child care and early learning as it relates to Council’s role as a child care resource and referral agency.
