Lefferts Road Project

In order to improve the existing electrical distribution system in two sections of the village, LIPA crews will be in the area for the next several weeks to perform the necessary work. The first affected area begins at the intersection of Old Country Road and Lefferts Road, south to Bayberry Avenue.

All work is taking place on the roadway and includes the reinforcement of the overhead facilities and installation of new underground facilities. This project is being performed to improve the reliability of LIPA’s electrical system in the immediate area. Toward the latter stages, LIPA anticipates service disruptions while work is being performed to transfer residents to the new system. Prior to any scheduled power disruptions, LIPA intends to notify affected customers in advance. This work is anticipated to be completed by week's end.

Southeastern Section

In addition, LIPA crews will also be in the Tremont-Poplar Street section of the village for the next several weeks to perform the work. The affected area begins at Commercial Avenue south to Meadow Street, and from Clinton Road east to Grove Street. This work also includes the upgrade of the overhead and underground electric facilities.

This multi-part project began last year with the installation of a new duct and manhole system on Boylston Street from Commercial Avenue to Meadow Street. The main feeder circuit was also replaced directly from the East Garden City substation into the area. The upcoming work completes the project by replacing the overhead and underground branch wires, some rear property poles and overhead transformers.

Toward the latter stages of the project, LIPA anticipates service disruptions while work is being performed to transfer the residents to the new system. Again, prior to any scheduled power disruptions, LIPA intends to notify residents in advance.

LIPA intends to work closely with the Village of Garden City to coordinate efforts. There will be supervision available during construction to help keep residents informed of the progress, and to notify them if any property access or service issues will effect them.

Residents can expect to see crews working on the following streets:

  • Boylston Street, north of Garden Street
  • Tremont Street, between Commercial Avenue and Brook Street
  • Tremont Street between Pine Street and Willow Street
  • College Place between Pine Street and Willow Street
  • Poplar Street between Boylston Street and Grove Street

Project completion is expected by the end of June. All temporary poles will be removed and the grass restored.

FAIR COURT PARKING LOT CONSTRUCTION

The Village of Garden City contracted Anthony Enterprises, Inc. to reconstruct the Fair Court Parking Field. Construction is scheduled to begin today and the project will be completed in two phases:

  • Phase #1 includes the eastern portion of the parking field and Ivy Court
  • Phase #2 includes the western portion of the parking field

During each phase of construction the other phase will be open for use. Project duration is anticipated to be seven weeks (approximately three and a half weeks per phase).

Some parking restrictions will be modified during construction; residents are advised to be mindful of the signage. In the event that the open parking area becomes full, additional long term parking is available in the county lot across Washington Avenue and additional two-hour parking will be available on the north side of Fair Court.
