Garden City High School's Class of 2012 received their diplomas Saturday morning during a beautiful commencement ceremony held on the Trojans' football field.

The stands were packed as the seniors processed into the stadium, the girls wearing crisp white summer dresses and the boys sporting sharp black and white tuxedos.

The ceremony included speeches from Valedictorian Alina Tanjbaran and Salutatorian Megan Bader, as well as school officials.

Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

I AM SADDEN TO SEE THERE WERE NO CAP AND GOWNS. THE BOYS LOOK GREAT, AND THE GIRLS WERE ALL SO MIXED MATCHED. HOW OFTEN DOES ONE GRADUATE, AND GET TO WEAR THE PROPER ATTIRE. IT IS TOO BAD THAT AN OLD RULE CAN'T BE CHANGED! FACULTY THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

While we are all entitled to our own opinion, I'd like to respond that I love that the boys wear the white tuxedo jackets and the girls wear white dresses, highlighted by a single red rose for each graduate. I agree with the other post that some of the dresses were too short, but I feel that Garden City's graduation is so elegant and classy looking the way it is currently done. I hated wearing a cap and gown when I graduated from a different high school. The caps didn't stay on so most of us had to hold them on with one hand, and the gowns were so bulky.

just reading Jane Goodall with my son for school and came across this quote of an amazing womanRead More "every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, every individual makes a difference." that is what makes our nation, our village so great everyone has an opinion whether we agree with it or not. It just saddens me to think some may not voice their opinion in the future because of the rather harsh comments which I'm sure were just meant to get a point across rather than be hurtful. Garden City residents are not afraid to get involved, to stand up for what they believe in and I am proud to live here.
