'GC For A Cure' Race Route Set For Saturday

Garden City Teachers' Association's annual charity run kicks off April 20 at Garden City High School.

The fourth annual Garden City Teachers' Association's “GC for a Cure” event kicks off Saturday morning at Garden City High School.

The event, consisting of a 5K (3.1 mile) timed run/walk and a 1 mile untimed fun run/walk, is expected to last from 9 a.m. until approximately noon, subject to weather conditions.

This year's fundraiser will once again benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The Garden City Police Department advises residents that all streets within and around the race route will be closed to vehicular traffic for the safety of race participants and spectators.

According to police, the primary area to be affected is between Rockaway Avenue and Tannerspond Road, from Stewart Avenue to Main Avenue/Merillon Avenue, including Garden City High School where both races start and finish.

Police ask residents to "make arrangements" because they won't be able to drive their vehicles to and from their homes during the race.
