Throwback Thursday: The First Garden City Hotel

Time for a look back at GC history.

As the Garden City Hotel undergoes a massive modernization, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at its earlier days as a four-story hotel in the Hempstead Plains.

This photo was taken of the first of four Garden City Hotels. The comparably tiny hotel opened in 1873 and was managed by GC founder Alexander Turney Stewart himself.

The hotel has come a long way since its first installation and eventually became a center for the New York elite. Read up on the history of the Garden City Hotel on their website here.
