2012 Holiday Window Winners Announced

Central business district windows are judged for the most holiday spirit, creativity and originality.

Judges representing Garden City’s four property owners’ associations and a professional artist have named the winners of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s 35th annual holiday shop window awards competition.

The “Toast of the Town” (best of show) was awarded to S.L. Enterprises.

The 10 additional winners within the central business district are (listed alphabetically):

  • Annastasia Salon
  • Coach Realtors
  • Devonshire Home Design
  • The Donnelly Group
  • EnVie
  • The High Top Shop
  • The Pear Tree
  • Things & Stuff
  • West & Stannish Opticians
Additionally, the shop window judged to be the best on New Hyde Park Road was Sugar & Spice Culinary Arts.

Windows are judged for the most holiday spirit, creativity and originality. The bottom line is visual impact. Winners will receive framed recognition certificates designed by Suzie Alvey, professional artist.

Traditionally, judges meet at Barbatsuly Furs, the first store on the route, thanks to Jimmy Karanikas, proprietor, and are later treated to coffee and desert by Seventh Street Café, thanks to Robert Scotto, proprietor, where they met to make their deliberations.

Judges are Gary Kahn, president, Central POA; Sue Eigl, representing the Estates POA; Suzie Alvey, professional artist; Judy Courtney, president, Eastern POA; and Tom Whelan, president, Western POA.
