Vacant in Garden City: Another Restaurant Closes Its Doors

Japanese restaurant Mumon says good bye to Franklin Avenue's north end.

Mumon, to many a hidden gem in Garden City, has closed its doors.

Located at 1300 Franklin Avenue, in the Winthrop University Hospital Wellness Pavilion, the restaurant featured traditional Japanese fare with a modern twist.

Mumon opened in January 2009. It;s the second business to close this year. Shimmer, a ladies clothing boutique on Franklin Avenue's south end, closed this quarter as well.

John Wilton, chair of the Merchant, Professional and Retailers Group, said rumor has it restaurant groups from New Jersey, Connecticut and Westchester are interested in the property. "There was a rumor that another steakhouse was looking at both Mumon and Gross Jewelers," he said.
