Blizzard Causing Closures and Cancellations

Residents, schools and local businesses are bracing for a major winter storm that could dump up to 15 inches of snow on Garden City.

As Garden City stands ready to take on a major blizzard headed our way, local businesses, colleges and schools are announcing early dismissals, closures and/or cancellations ahead of the storm's arrival.

Here's a rundown of what we know so far:

  • Nassau Community College: All classes and activities at or after 3:30 p.m. Friday are cancelled. All classes and activities for Saturday are also cancelled. All classes and activities for Sunday will resume as scheduled.
  • Garden City School District: All after school activities within the Garden City public school district are cancelled for today. At this time, After School Child Care will be open today. Tomorrow, Saturday, the Winter Program for Kids is cancelled.
  • Waldorf School: All after school clubs and activities - including the After School Drama Club's performance of "Mulan" - have been cancelled. Please note that staff will remain at the school until all children have been picked up. The Summer Program Open House scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. has been cancelled. The next Summer Program Open House will take place on Sunday, March 3.
  • Sacred Heart Academy: Early dismissal Friday at 1 p.m.
  • Yoga Nanda: Tonight's classes as well as tomorrow's early classes are cancelled. As of now, the 3 and 5 p.m. classes are still on for Saturday. Please call the yoga studio at 516-509-5941.
  • Rock Your Yoga: Due to inclement weather, the free Rock Your Yoga event at Roosevelt Field Mall has been rescheduled to Feb. 16-17.
  • Garden City Recreation: Due to the impending snow storm, the Recreation Department will be closing all buildings and cancelling all programs for Saturday. The Tennis Facility will also be closed both Saturday and Sunday due to the storm. Visit www.gardencityrecreation.org for updates on Sunday's conditions.
