Week in Review: Top Headlines

A fire in a Jamaica switching tower that wreaked havoc on LIRR commuters trying to get to and from work dominated last week's headlines. Repairs are underway but will still likely result in limited service come Monday.

In school news, Patch brought you Part I of a four-part series on back-to-school safety, courtesy of the Garden City Police Department. We also spotlighted an Adelphi University community action program in which incoming freshmen devote part of their summer vacation to community service.

Patch also spotlighted a unique summer music camp that culminated in a live concert at Mulcahy's for some lucky local musicians, some of the village's most beautiful landscapes that put the "garden" in Garden City and a Garden City High School graduate that literally put his wedding plans in America's hands.
