Aggressive Driving Campaign Coincides With School Opening

Garden City police targeting motorists not only on heavily traveled roads but also in the vicinity of schools and bus stops.

Police Commissioner Ernest Cipullo announces that the Garden City Police Department will be conducting an aggressive driving campaign during the beginning of the school year.

During this campaign, police officers will be targeting motorists who commit aggressive driving violations not only on heavily traveled roads but also in the vicinity of schools and bus stops.

Along with their respective Garden City Village Court imposed fines and New York State surcharges, the following is a partial list of aggressive driving violations that will be targeted during this campaign:

New York State DMV will suspend the driver’s license of anyone who has collected 11 points during an 18-month period or who has been convicted of three speed violations during an 18-month period.

“To coincide with the opening of area schools, the department is conducting this campaign to serve as a reminder, the consequences of aggressive driving. Not only does aggressive driving endanger other motorists but pedestrians as well, particularly, children standing at bus stops and/or walking to school," Commissioner Cipullo said. "In addition, I believe that strict traffic enforcement resulting in substantial fines and points assessed will result in reducing the probability of tragic accidents attributed to aggressive driving.
