Crime Blotter: Taxi Driver Busted For Weapon Possession, DWI

Officer Oswald stopped the vehicle on Sixth Street and arrested the 34-year-old female driver.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Dec. 17: Several gift cards totaling $250 were removed from a counter in Homestead School.

Dec. 19: The department was advised that an unknown person filed an unauthorized tax return using a resident’s identity.

Dec. 19: As a result of a domestic incident investigation, Officer Reilly arrested a male 23-year-old from Garden City for intentionally damaging property belonging to another family member.

Dec. 19: Two extension cords and copper tubing were removed from a house under construction on Ninth Street. Total Loss: $400.

Dec. 20: Vehicles were entered overnight on Princeton Street and Dartmouth Street. Proceeds included loose change, GPS devices and gift cards.

Dec. 20: Officer Bandl stopped a male 20-year-old from Ozone Park for speeding (78 mph in a 30 mph zone) on Stewart Avenue in the vicinity of Whitehall Boulevard. Upon an investigation, the subject was arrested for an outstanding Nassau County District Court larceny warrant. He was also charged with excessive speed and uninsured operation.

Dec. 21: Officer Russell stopped a vehicle on Hilton Avenue at Ninth Street for a defective headlight. Upon an investigation, the driver, a male 20-year-old from Elmont, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation (12 open driver's license suspensions), unlicensed operation, uninsured operation, uninspected vehicle and two equipment violations.

Dec. 21: Officers Wedra and McCarthy arrested two males, age 22 from Brooklyn, for shoplifting at Lord & Taylor. One subject was charged with the theft of $90 in merchandise and the other subject was charged with the theft of $207 in merchandise.

Dec. 22: Officer Touhy responded for a report of an unauthorized male who stole a bottle of liquor from an office at 220 Old Country Road and then fled the area on foot. Officer Touhy arrested the subject a short distance away on Old Country Road. The subject, a male 60-year-old with no known address, was charged with burglary.

Dec. 22: A shopper at Key Food reports the theft of credit cards from her handbag.

Dec. 22: Officer Graber responded to the vicinity of Nassau Boulevard and Stratford Avenue for a report of a vehicle traveling with no front tire. Upon checking the area, Officer Graber found the vehicle on Harrison Street and arrested the driver, a male 19-year-old from Garden City, for aggravated DWI (.24 percent blood alcohol content).

Dec. 23: Officer Oswald observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Clinton Road at Locust Street at 55 MPH in a 30 MPH Zone. The vehicle continued to travel north in a reckless manner and passed a red traffic light at Stewart Avenue. Officer Oswald finally was able to stop the car at Vanderbilt Court. Upon an investigation, the driver, a male 33-year-old from Ronkonkoma, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI (.19 percent blood alcohol content), aggravated unlicensed operation (four active suspensions), reckless driving, a red light violation, speeding, two lane violations and uninsured operation.

Dec. 23: Upon an investigation, Officer Walsh and Sgt. Grimes arrested a male 25-year-old from Long Beach for two locker thefts at the NY Sports Club. It was determined that the subject took $100 from a locker on Dec. 22 and $20 from a locker on Dec. 23.

Dec. 24: Officer Oswald was on patrol when he observed a Canales Taxi with passengers westbound on Meadow Street passing a Stop sign at Main Street. The vehicle then made a right turn onto Franklin Avenue without stopping for a red light and then continued north at 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. He stopped the vehicle on Sixth Street and subsequently arrested the taxi driver, a female 34-year-old from Hempstead, for DWI (.13 percent blood alcohol content), passing a Stop sign, passing a red light, three lane violations and speeding. The subject was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon when it was discovered that she was in possession of a stun gun.
